Our Rating:

In a kingdom, there is a witch who lives off the beaten track. She is busy with alchemy, potion-making, fortune-telling ,frightening people and other magic..They say she has already lived for a few centuries here. The local lord is fed up with such neighbourhood…

Prologue

There are two different characters to play as and each of them has their own prologue. You can play as a scholar and as a warrior. As the scholar, you’re send to the witch by your father, to tell her that the local lord is fed up with her behaviour. The warrior is send by the local lord himself, and is simply there to give her a letter.

The game quickly develops in something a lot more naughty.

Story

You’re either the son of a noble man (who is also a bit of a scholar) or a warrior and both characters have their own personality. They also have their own story arc, with the scholar being more of a corruption arc and the warrior more of a enemies to lover arc. Both have their own charms.

Sometimes the subtitles are a bit of a challenge to read, because there are a lot of spelling mistakes. But the story is still relatively understandable, and the general plotlines are very clear. Both stories also took an unexpected turn for me, which I enjoyed quite a bit.

A huge downside of this game was the fact that I needed to download & install a separate DLC to get to the sex scenes. I would have liked if the base game was complete, instead of finding the DLC somewhere in the reviews. This, together with the spelling mistakes, lowers the rating for me.

Mechanics

The mechanics are very easy: It is a simple puzzle game, in the Match 3 style. There are multiple little icons, and you have to get a specific amount of 3 them. This amount is always 13, but the icons you need to collect change up every time.

The icons are: A bag of coins, a heart potion, a green potion, a cauldron, a bomb and a black cat. The shape of the playing field will change sometimes as well. Some are easier than others.

Another nice touch is that if you lose, you don’t have to start from the beginning of the story again. You can just replay the stage you are currently at. The witch will be shown at one side of the screen and will change every stage as well. There are little details as you progress, like her clothes getting torn up.

The mechanics reminded me a lot of Hunnie Pop, which was one of the first erotic games that I ever played.

Characters

Each character has their own personality and they differ enough from one another to stand out. They also have their own character arch, with a few surprising plot twists thrown into the mix. I always love it when games do that.

From all three characters, I think the warrior might be my favourite. The character doesn’t shy away from foul language, which is always a plus in my book. Some of the sex scenes are used interchangeably though, and I would have liked to see each of the character have all exclusive scenes.

With the Noble Son some of the things felt a little out of character. But it was not too bad. It didn’t distract too much from the storyline, and I guess that’s the main purpose. I personally recommend going for the Scholar first, before playing through the warrior storyline.

Conclusion

Witch Story was exactly what I expected from it, especially seeing that it was so cheap. It has just enough sex-scenes, and they are uncensored too. The art looks good and has plenty of detail. Images are reused for multiple scenes, but will have little changes to them.

All by all, an enjoyable story with an easy game mechanic. The replay value is a little low, especially if you managed to get all four endings. Maybe a once-in-a-year type of game, at least for me.

For the price, definitely a game you could give a go.
